TX-35 is an open-seat contest following 2025 redistricting that shifted the district toward Republicans, with 2024 presidential results showing a Trump margin of roughly 10 points under the new lines. Democrat Johnny Garcia, a Bexar County sheriff’s deputy positioned as a moderate, faces Republican Carlos De La Cruz, an Air Force veteran backed by President Trump. Both nominees cleared contentious May 2026 runoffs after crowded primaries, and recent FEC filings show comparable fundraising through June. Trader consensus reflects a closely contested race where local demographics, turnout patterns in the San Antonio area and surrounding counties, and the absence of an incumbent keep the outcome uncertain heading into November, despite expert ratings favoring the GOP.
