Maine’s 2nd congressional district features an open seat after incumbent Democrat Jared Golden opted not to run, pitting Republican nominee Paul LePage against Democratic nominee Matthew Dunlap following June 2026 primaries resolved by ranked-choice voting. Recent polling, including a July internal survey showing Dunlap at 49% to LePage’s 48%, underscores the tight contest in a district that has favored Republicans in presidential races. Trader consensus assigns the Republican Party a modest edge, driven by LePage’s statewide name recognition and the district’s electoral history, while Democratic prospects hinge on turnout among key voting blocs and any shifts in the national environment ahead of the November general election. Late-cycle developments such as additional polling, fundraising reports, or campaign events could widen or narrow the gap.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
