Persistent high pressure and clear skies over Houston on August 29 supported strong daytime heating, with National Weather Service guidance and model consensus projecting a peak near 95°F—several degrees above the late-August climatological average of about 92°F. Light winds and elevated dew points further reinforced heat retention without significant afternoon convection to limit the maximum. This alignment of observed conditions and verified forecasts produced overwhelming trader consensus around the 94-95°F outcome. A sudden earlier onset of cloud cover or isolated heavy showers could have trimmed the high by 1–2°F, yet post-event station data showed no such development occurred.
