Recent fuel price volatility from global oil market pressures has pushed South Africa's headline CPI to 5.0% in June 2026 before easing to 4.3% in July, driving Polymarket trader consensus toward the 4.4-5.0% range for the 2026 annual average. The South African Reserve Bank’s May forecast projects 4.4% average inflation this year, with core measures near 4.2% and expectations surveys at a record-low 3.6%, yet upside risks from transport costs and potential rand weakness persist. Producer price trends and municipal tariff adjustments add further uncertainty ahead of the August CPI release and the September 23 Monetary Policy Committee meeting, where the 7% repo rate path will be reassessed against the 3% target.
