In Louisiana’s solidly Republican 5th district, an open seat after Rep. Julia Letlow’s Senate bid has drawn multiple Republican candidates following the August 7 qualifying deadline, alongside limited Democratic opposition. The November 3 jungle primary operates under the majority-vote system, where an outright winner requires over 50 percent to avoid the December 12 runoff. Early polling showed frontrunners in the low-to-mid 20s with substantial undecided voters, yet the district’s partisan lean and expected consolidation around a leading contender support trader consensus favoring a first-round majority. Recent shifts from canceled partisan primaries to the single November ballot further shape assessments of vote fragmentation versus consolidation.
