Northeast flow off Lake Michigan is moderating temperatures across the Chicago area ahead of September 6, with National Weather Service forecasts and model consensus pointing to a daytime high in the upper 70s under mostly sunny skies. Recent hot conditions—highs of 91–96°F from September 1–4—have given way to cooler northeast winds of 10–15 mph, limiting afternoon warming and keeping readings near or slightly below the 1991–2020 climatological average of roughly 79°F. This setup supports the market’s heavy weighting toward 78–79°F (55.5%) and 76–77°F (34.0%), with only modest probabilities assigned to 80°F or above because models show limited potential for stronger southerly flow or reduced cloud cover. Final resolution will depend on the official Chicago O’Hare maximum temperature observation.
