This market will resolve "Yes" if NOAA's Climate Prediction Center reports a Regional Ocean Niño Index (RONI) value of +2.0°C or higher for any of the following seasons: ASO 2026, SON 2026, OND 2026, NDJ 2026-27, or DJF 2026-27, as reported in official NOAA CPC RONI updates, https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/enso/roni/. Otherwise, this market will resolve "No". A Super El Niño is an El Niño event in which RONI reaches this threshold for at least one overlapping ENSO season. An ENSO season is one of NOAA's standard overlapping 3-month periods (e.g., ASO, SON, OND, NDJ, DJF). This market may resolve "Yes" immediately upon NOAA's first publication of a qualifying RONI value for any listed season. If no season has qualified, this market will not resolve "No" until NOAA publishes the DJF 2026-27 value since DJF captures El Niño's typical peak-strength window and an earlier "No" could contradict the final published data. The first published RONI value for each listed season is final and governs this market's resolution; no subsequent revision to any season's value will be considered or will change the outcome once that season's first value has been published.**Recent official forecasts and observed ocean-atmosphere coupling explain the 87.9% market-implied probability for a Super El Niño (very strong event) this winter.** As of early August 2026, the Niño-3.4 index stands at approximately +1.2°C and has risen rapidly, with sea-surface temperature anomalies exceeding +2.0°C across much of the central and eastern equatorial Pacific. A downwelling Kelvin wave has further deepened the thermocline and amplified eastern Pacific warming. NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center reports an 81% chance of a very strong El Niño (among the top historical events since 1950) during October–December 2026, with 97% confidence that El Niño conditions persist into early 2027. Multi-model ensembles, including the North American Multi-Model Ensemble, project peak seasonal anomalies potentially exceeding +2.5–2.9°C, consistent with “super” thresholds historically tied to events such as 1997–98 and 2015–16. The World Meteorological Organization likewise highlights steady intensification through August–October, reinforced by a positive Indian Ocean Dipole that can amplify Pacific effects. These converging signals—current measurements, subsurface warming, atmospheric response, and model consensus—have driven trader consensus toward high confidence in a top-tier event peaking during the 2026–27 winter. Uncertainty remains around exact peak magnitude and precise market resolution criteria, but the trajectory of recent data releases and forecast updates continues to support elevated odds.
