Persistent high pressure and subsiding air under a strong subtropical ridge suppressed cloud cover and convective activity across Central Texas on August 29, allowing strong daytime heating under mostly clear skies and light south-southeast winds. Official National Weather Service observations and model consensus from NOAA placed the daily maximum near the seasonal normal of 95–97°F but slightly elevated by ongoing late-summer dryness, with afternoon readings stabilizing in the upper 90s at key Austin stations. This alignment of synoptic conditions and real-time surface data produced the overwhelming market consensus around 98–99°F. A realistic shift would require either an earlier-than-expected sea-breeze intrusion or unforecasted high-level moisture increasing cloud cover enough to limit insolation, though both scenarios remained low-probability given the established ridge and minimal model spread.
