Official National Weather Service observations at Chicago O’Hare recorded a daily maximum of exactly 81°F on August 29, 2026, reached at 3:16 p.m. CDT and matching the 1991–2020 climatological normal with zero departure. Pre-event model guidance and National Weather Service forecasts consistently projected a high in the lower 80s under partly cloudy skies with light southwest flow, producing no significant warm or cool anomalies. This alignment between real-time forecasts, historical normals, and the final verified reading drove the market’s 100% implied probability on the 80–81°F bin. The only realistic challenges would involve an unusually large post-publication data revision at the primary station or a market-resolution rule that privileges a secondary Chicago-area site reporting a meaningfully different value, both of which remain statistically rare once preliminary climatological reports are issued.
