Incumbent Republican Brian Babin secured his party's nomination in the March 2026 primary with over 81 percent of the vote in Texas's 36th congressional district, facing Democratic nominee Rhonda Hart in the November general election. The district's established Republican lean, reflected in strong prior support for Republican presidential and Senate candidates, combined with its rural and energy-producing character along the Gulf Coast and into East Texas, underpins the market's heavy weighting toward the GOP. Redistricting adjustments have preserved this partisan composition, and the absence of competitive primary challenges or notable campaign developments since the filing period has reinforced trader consensus around the seat's safety. A major personal scandal, health event, or unexpected national Democratic surge could narrow the margin, though such shifts remain low-probability given structural factors and historical turnout patterns.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
