Guinea-Bissau’s National People’s Assembly election, scheduled for December 6, 2026, follows a military coup in November 2025 that halted prior voting and installed a transitional government under a one-year roadmap toward restored constitutional order. Trader sentiment reflects this instability, with Platforma Republicana “Nô Kumpu Guiné” holding the clearest but modest lead amid a highly fragmented field where no major party exceeds 31 percent. Recent developments include an August 2026 constitutional referendum expanding executive powers, passage of a gender-parity law for candidate lists, and efforts to form an inclusive interim cabinet. Key differentiators among contenders involve varying ties to the transitional authorities, positions on institutional reform, and capacity to build coalitions in a system historically prone to shifts through alliances or court rulings on eligibility. Support could consolidate around any platform demonstrating broad regional backing or securing endorsements ahead of the vote.
