Georgia’s open secretary of state race remains closely contested because the November general election pits Democrat Penny Brown Reynolds against Republican Tim Fleming in a state where control of election administration carries high stakes. Reynolds, a former judge and Biden administration official, prevailed in the Democratic runoff on a platform emphasizing voting rights and election modernization. Fleming, a state representative and former chief of staff to Governor Kemp, won the Republican nomination after focusing on fraud prevention and voter ID measures. With both candidates advancing from competitive primaries in May and June, neither has established a durable polling or fundraising edge. Georgia’s recent history of narrow statewide margins and ongoing debates over ballot security and equipment choices continue to keep trader consensus tightly balanced between the two nominees.
