US manufacturing activity expanded for an eighth straight month in August 2026, with the ISM PMI easing to 54.6 from July’s 55.6—below the 55.2 consensus—as new orders slowed to 53.7 while production held near 58.3 and employment remained in expansion territory at 51.2. Elevated input prices at 71.1, supply-chain delays linked to tariffs and Middle East tensions, and AI-related demand continue to shape the outlook, with customer inventories still low. Traders assign the highest implied probabilities to September readings clustered in the mid-50s, reflecting the sector’s resilience above the 50 expansion threshold alongside recent momentum loss and uncertainty over policy and geopolitical factors ahead of the October 1 release.
