National Weather Service forecasts and supporting model guidance indicate a high near 89°F in Chicago on August 31 under partly sunny skies after morning clouds, with southwest winds of 10-15 mph. This positions the 88-89°F and 90-91°F bins as closely matched market leaders because forecast highs sit at the boundary between those ranges, where small shifts in afternoon cloud cover, mixing depth, or dewpoint advection could tip the official observation either way. Above-normal temperatures reflect a warm, humid air mass with heat indices potentially reaching the mid-90s, while the low probability of widespread convection limits cooling from storms. Historical climatology shows an average high near 81°F, underscoring the current anomaly driven by persistent southwesterly flow. Updated model runs and the evening NWS forecast discussion represent the next key data points for traders.
