The crowded field of 17 candidates in Alaska’s August 18 nonpartisan top-four primary has kept first-place odds tightly bunched, with several Republican contenders including Click Bishop, Dave Bronson, and Bernadette Wilson clustered near the top alongside independents such as Bill Walker and Democrats Tom Begich and Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins. A fragmented Republican vote, combined with limited recent polling and the open seat created by term-limited Governor Mike Dunleavy, has prevented any single candidate from establishing a clear lead in trader assessments. Nancy Dahlstrom’s withdrawal earlier this year further dispersed support without creating separation. Late endorsements, turnout patterns in Anchorage and rural areas, or final-week campaigning could still reorder the finish among viable contenders.
