This market will resolve to “Yes” if Miguel Díaz-Canel is taken into U.S. government custody at any point by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. Miguel Díaz-Canel will be considered taken into U.S. government custody if U.S. government personnel (including military, CIA, personnel of another agency, or contractors acting under direct U.S. government authority) physically detain, arrest, capture, or otherwise assume physical custodial control of Miguel Díaz-Canel, regardless of location or duration. The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the U.S. government and a consensus of credible reporting.US sanctions imposed on Miguel Díaz-Canel and associates in June 2026, alongside an earlier indictment of Raúl Castro, have intensified pressure on Cuban leadership without triggering any custody action. Trader consensus assigns low probability to US custody by December 31, 2026, given the structural barriers for a sitting head of state, including Cuba's sovereignty, absence of extradition mechanisms, and lack of signaled military or law enforcement operations. Diplomatic talks initiated in March 2026 over energy shortages and prisoner releases, followed by Díaz-Canel's July accusations of US aggression, underscore ongoing bilateral tensions rather than pathways to physical detention. Related markets on federal charges show closer odds, highlighting escalation risks that could indirectly influence custody scenarios within the resolution window.
