The Democratic nominee Cait Conley leads Republican incumbent Mike Lawler in trader pricing for New York’s 17th congressional district, reflecting the seat’s narrow 2024 Republican margin, its slight Democratic tilt in presidential voting, and the typical midterm environment favoring the opposition party. Conley, an Army veteran who won a competitive June primary, faces Lawler in a Hudson Valley swing district encompassing Rockland, Putnam, and parts of Westchester and Dutchess counties. Recent polling shows a tight general election contest, with forecasters rating the race a toss-up or lean Republican. High spending and early campaign events, including an August forum, underscore the contest’s competitiveness ahead of the November 3 general election.
