Romania's ongoing political crisis, triggered by the May 2026 no-confidence vote ousting Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, continues to shape the next prime minister market. Multiple failed nominations, including Eugen Tomac and Adrian Veștea, have left Parliament deadlocked between the Social Democrats (PSD) backing party leader Sorin Grindeanu for a minority government and center-right parties (PNL, USR, UDMR) advancing alternatives like Siegfried Mureșan. Trader consensus has shifted toward Alexandru Nazare as the leading compromise option in recent negotiations, reflecting his perceived viability across factions amid pressure to secure parliamentary support before early elections become likely. Hard-right AUR's polling strength adds urgency, while scheduled talks with President Nicușor Dan remain the key near-term catalyst.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
