In Michigan’s 7th congressional district, a swing seat centered on the Lansing area, incumbent Republican Tom Barrett faces Democrat William Lawrence in the November 3 general election. Lawrence secured the Democratic nomination on August 4 by winning a three-way primary against former Ambassador Bridget Brink and Matt Maasdam. Pre-primary polling showed Barrett holding narrow leads or statistical ties against potential Democratic opponents in this district, which features a mix of suburban, rural, and university voters. Trader consensus reflected in current market pricing likely incorporates typical midterm dynamics favoring the opposition party, the district’s recent competitive history, and Lawrence’s early general-election positioning following his primary victory. No major post-primary polls have shifted the outlook substantially.
