Romania's ongoing government formation process after the May 2026 no-confidence vote that ousted Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has positioned Alexandru Nazare as the leading contender among traders, reflecting his role as finance minister and involvement in fiscal reforms amid coalition negotiations between PNL, PSD, USR, and UDMR. Sorin Grindeanu trails due to PSD's leverage in parliament and prior coalition participation, though party shifts have complicated majority-building. Deadlock persists into August with parliament in recess, EU Recovery and Resilience Plan deadlines approaching, and caretaker arrangements limiting action. Other names remain lower as negotiations center on fiscal stability, EU funds, and cross-party support without snap elections. Trader consensus incorporates these procedural and partisan dynamics.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
