French presidential candidate selection for the April 2027 first round centers on eligibility rulings, party nomination processes, and the crowded field of declared contenders following Emmanuel Macron’s ineligibility for a third term. Marine Le Pen’s July 2026 appeal court decision reduced her ineligibility period, clearing her path and prompting her formal candidacy announcement, which traders view as stabilizing National Rally options alongside Jordan Bardella. On the center-right, The Republicans endorsed Bruno Retailleau in April 2026 after member votes, while Gabriel Attal declared for Renaissance in May and Édouard Philippe positions Horizons as a potential runoff alternative. Fragmented left-wing and additional center-right figures continue exploring bids or coalitions, with internal primaries, legal appeals, and polling thresholds likely determining final ballot access ahead of the vote.
