Recent moderation in U.S. manufacturing activity after July’s 55.6 peak shapes trader positioning for the September ISM Manufacturing PMI, due October 1. The August reading eased to 54.6, below the 55.2 consensus, as new orders slowed to 53.7 and employment growth cooled to 51.2, while production held near 58.3 and the prices index stayed elevated at 71.1 amid persistent input-cost pressures. Eight straight months of expansion above 50 reflect resilience, yet tariffs, supply-chain delays, and Middle East-related uncertainty continue to weigh on order pipelines and backlogs. With probabilities clustered tightly across the 53–56 ranges, markets price in continued but uneven growth rather than a decisive acceleration or reversal ahead of the next data release.
