Recent expulsions of Iranian diplomats reflect heightened diplomatic strains between Iran and multiple governments amid accusations of espionage, support for regional proxies, and national security concerns. The United States quietly removed Iran's deputy UN ambassador Saadat Aghajani and at least two other mission members in late 2025 under section 13 procedures. Argentina declared chargé d'affaires Mohsen Soltani Tehrani persona non grata in April 2026, while Saudi Arabia ordered five diplomats to depart in March and Lebanon took similar action against its ambassador earlier that month, prompting Iranian defiance. Australia had expelled its ambassador in 2025 over alleged involvement in antisemitic incidents. Trader sentiment on further expulsions by specific deadlines centers on whether these bilateral frictions and ongoing Middle East conflicts will produce additional moves before resolution dates.

For the purposes of this market, “expel” refers to a formal action by a country requiring the Iranian Ambassador currently stationed there as of market creation to leave the country, including a declaration of persona non grata. Revocation of the Ambassador’s visa or denial of entry to that country will not alone suffice.
An announcement of a qualifying expulsion will suffice for a “Yes” resolution, regardless of whether the Ambassador actually leaves the country.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the relevant country’s government; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
