This market will resolve to "Yes" if there have been the specified amount or more confirmed domestically acquired cases of cyclosporiasis in humans in the territory of the United States of America since May 1, 2026, according to the CDC surveillance count by August 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be the CDC Surveillance of Cyclosporiasis page’s “U.S. cases reported to CDC” count (see: https://www.cdc.gov/cyclosporiasis/php/surveillance/index.html) at the resolution time. If the counter becomes unavailable, another credible source will be used. Note: Only cases reported by the CDC as confirmed domestically acquired cases of cyclosporiasis will qualify, regardless of reports from U.S. State agencies or other sources. Travel-associated cases acquired outside the United States will not qualify.**A large multistate cyclosporiasis outbreak driven by contaminated iceberg lettuce has produced 10,468 laboratory-confirmed domestically acquired U.S. cases since May 1, 2026, per CDC surveillance through early August, far exceeding prior years.** The parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis spreads via fecal-oral contamination of fresh produce, with illness onset typically 1–14 days after exposure and no person-to-person transmission. Michigan accounts for the largest share, alongside clusters in 14 other states linked to Mexican-sourced lettuce. CDC considers May 1–August 31 the annual U.S. season, when warmer temperatures and produce distribution patterns elevate risk. Weekly CDC updates on confirmed cases and additional investigations will provide the latest counts before the August 31 cutoff, with potential for further rises if new exposures or reporting lags occur. Trader sentiment reflects the already elevated trajectory and uncertainty around final season totals.
