SpaceX achieved a major milestone with Flight 13 on July 24, 2026, when Ship 40 executed an exceptionally precise splashdown that Elon Musk confirmed met tower-catch criteria. This cleared the path for Flight 14, now targeted for late August 2026 pending FAA approval, to attempt the first catch of the Starship upper stage using the launch tower’s Mechazilla chopsticks. Tower modifications—including shortened arms and electromechanical actuators—enhance tracking speed and reliability for the lighter, faster-returning vehicle compared with prior Super Heavy booster catches. Full reusability hinges on this orbital-class return, with regulatory clearance, vehicle data review, and heat-shield performance as key variables that could shift timelines into September. Trader sentiment reflects optimism around an imminent attempt balanced against typical test-flight risks.

A successful catch is defined as the chopsticks capturing and supporting the Starship upper stage without it falling to the ground or causing catastrophic damage during the landing process.
If SpaceX attempts an ocean splashdown of the Starship upper stage instead of attempting to catch it using the Orbital Launch Tower's chopsticks, that attempt will not qualify. If no Starship launch occurs, or a successful catch does not take place, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No."
The resolution source for this market will be official video provided by SpaceX (https://www.youtube.com/c/SpaceX), as well as secondary video feeds and/or written reports if necessary.
