Incumbent Republican David Valadao advanced alongside Democratic challenger Randy Villegas from the June 2026 top-two primary after Villegas defeated the more moderate Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains. Redistricting shifted the Central Valley seat toward greater Democratic performance, creating a competitive or lean-Democratic environment where trader consensus reflects Villegas’s polling edge and the district’s altered partisan composition. Upcoming factors include fall campaign spending, turnout among key voter blocs, and any national midterm dynamics that could influence the November 3 general election outcome.
