Texas's 38th congressional district features a strong Republican partisan lean rooted in its west Houston and northwest Harris County boundaries, where recent presidential voting favored the GOP by double digits. With incumbent Wesley Hunt pursuing a U.S. Senate bid, the seat opened, yet Jon Bonck consolidated Republican support by winning the May 2026 primary runoff with nearly 65% of the vote against multiple challengers. Melissa McDonough emerged as the Democratic nominee after her March primary. Forecasters across outlets maintain Solid or Safe Republican ratings ahead of the November 3 general election, reflecting the district's established voting patterns, limited Democratic infrastructure, and absence of recent polling or events that would shift trader assessments of the outcome.
