Recent August CPI data at 0.8% YoY, up from July’s 0.5%, reflected firmer non-food and energy prices amid global commodity pressures while food costs remained in deflation and domestic demand stayed soft due to property-sector weakness. Trader consensus clusters around the 0.7–1.0% ranges because September readings face similar offsetting forces: potential further energy pass-through versus subdued consumer spending and ample supply in key categories. Scheduled National Bureau of Statistics release in mid-October will resolve the market, with any acceleration in core measures or shifts in fuel prices likely widening the gap between leading outcomes.
