**Official forecasts from the National Weather Service place the expected high for New York City (Central Park) on August 31 in the low 80s, with a consensus around 79–83°F.** Partly sunny skies and light winds shifting from northerly to southeasterly will limit daytime heating while a modest chance of morning showers could suppress the peak by a degree or two through evaporative cooling and increased cloud cover. These conditions follow several days of similar mid-summer readings near or slightly below the 1991–2020 average high of 81°F for the date. The tight spread between the leading market outcomes (80–81°F at 41% and 78–79°F at 36%) reflects genuine uncertainty in the exact maximum, driven by small differences in model guidance on afternoon cloud thickness, boundary-layer mixing, and any localized convective development. Stronger consensus on avoiding extremes above 84°F or below 76°F aligns with the stable air mass and absence of strong warm advection or clear, calm conditions that would push temperatures higher. New model runs and updated NWS forecasts over the next 24 hours will provide the clearest signals for resolution.

The resolution source for this market will be information from NOAA, specifically the highest reading under the "Temp" column for all times on this day, available here: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=klga
This market will resolve off of the Hourly Data provided using the "Show Hourly Data" button.
If NOAA data for the observation date is unavailable by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date, the Weather Underground Daily Observations table will be used as the resolution source.
To toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius, click the "Switch to US Units w/ kts" button until the relevant table displays °F.
This market can not resolve until the first data point for the following date has been published on the resolution source.
The resolution source for this market measures temperatures to whole degrees Fahrenheit (eg, 21°F). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market.
Revisions to temperatures recorded within this market's timeframe will be considered until the first datapoint for the following date has been published, after which any alterations will not be considered.
