This market will resolve to "Yes" if the United States' long-term sovereign credit letter rating is downgraded by any of the three major credit rating agencies (S&P, Moody's, Fitch) at any point by December 31, 2026 11:59pm ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be official information from Standard & Poor's, Moody's, or Fitch, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used. All three major rating agencies hold stable outlooks on U.S. sovereign debt after Moody’s May 2025 downgrade to Aa1 aligned it with S&P and Fitch at one notch below AAA. Fitch reaffirmed its AA+ rating with a stable outlook in August 2025, and mid-2026 reviews through the present have shown no negative watches or rating actions. The 2025 debt-ceiling increase to $41.1 trillion eased near-term legislative risks, while the absence of fresh fiscal standoffs or abrupt policy shocks has limited downgrade pressure despite ongoing deficits and rising debt-service costs in Congressional Budget Office projections. Traders therefore assign roughly 84-85% probability to no further downgrade before the end of 2026.
