**The closely matched prices around 45–50% for leading names reflect the high uncertainty in Nelson Mandela Bay’s mayoral outcome ahead of the 4 November 2026 local government elections.** The mayor is elected by the new municipal council rather than directly, so trader consensus hinges on which party or coalition secures a workable majority amid ongoing candidate selections and shifting voter alignments. The Democratic Alliance has named former mayor Retief Odendaal as its candidate and is emphasizing administrative reform. The Economic Freedom Fighters has put forward Sinawo Thambo. The African National Congress, historically dominant but facing internal competition, is still finalizing its nominee from a shortlist that includes Andile Lungisa, current mayor Babalwa Lobishe, and Siva Pillay. Lungisa’s bid has drawn attention due to his prior conviction, yet he remains eligible and is actively campaigning for an outright ANC majority. With several parties yet to lock in candidates and no recent public polling to clarify support levels, the market remains fragmented. Key upcoming catalysts include the ANC’s final selection, party manifesto launches, voter registration drives, and any early indicators of coalition negotiations that could tip council control.
