Recent FOMC projections, including the June 2026 dot plot showing a median federal funds rate of 3.8% for year-end 2026, have aligned trader expectations with limited easing or modest hikes amid sticky inflation. Headline CPI stood at 3.4% in July, reflecting lingering effects from energy price shocks tied to geopolitical tensions, while core measures eased only gradually. The labor market remains stable with unemployment near 4.1-4.5%, supporting a resilient growth outlook that reduces pressure for cuts. With the current target range at 3.5-3.75% and no reductions implemented in 2026 so far, market pricing concentrates on 3.75% and 4.0% outcomes as the consensus path through December, reflecting the "higher for longer" stance and dispersion in official forecasts.
