The open mayoral contest in Peterborough, Ontario, features seven certified candidates after incumbent Jeff Leal opted not to seek a second term ahead of the October 26 municipal election. Trader pricing reflects a fragmented field where no single contender has established a commanding position, with Keith Riel, Neil Morton, Michael Eamon, and Rebecca Schillemat clustered as the clearest options while Rob Hailman, Jacob Méthot, and Brian Lumsden trail. The absence of recent public polling, combined with varied candidate backgrounds spanning council experience, business, academia, and community advocacy, sustains the close contest. Upcoming candidate forums, platform details on housing and transit, and any late endorsements could consolidate support ahead of election day.
