Persistent high pressure and clear, dry conditions across North Texas produced an unusually warm overnight minimum in Dallas on September 16, with official observations recording a low of 81°F at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. This aligned closely with the market’s near-certain 82-83°F bin because late-summer soil moisture deficits and southeasterly flow limited radiational cooling, keeping temperatures well above the 1991-2020 climatological normal of 70°F. Strong model consensus from prior days correctly anticipated minimal cloud cover and continued warmth, leaving little room for cooler outcomes. Only an unexpected surge of moisture or rapid frontal passage could have lowered readings enough to challenge the dominant resolution.
