The Bank of England’s July 30 decision to hold Bank Rate at 3.75% by a 6-3 vote, combined with July CPI at 2.9% and contained core measures, underpins the 96.1% market-implied probability of no change at the September 17 meeting. Traders have scaled back earlier pricing for a 25-basis-point hike after oil prices eased and the MPC emphasized that rates remain sufficiently restrictive to manage second-round effects from Middle East energy volatility, with inflation projected to peak near 3.2% in Q4 before moderating. Recent soft growth and labor data further support the consensus for steady policy. A material escalation in energy prices or sharper-than-expected wage pressures ahead of the meeting could still prompt a shift in the three-hike minority’s influence.
