The Federal Reserve’s September 16 decision to raise the federal funds rate by 25 basis points to the 3.75–4.00 percent range, the first hike in more than three years, has been the dominant driver of recent US Dollar Index (DXY) strength. Markets have repriced expectations for additional tightening by year-end, supporting the index near 100.22 as of September 18 amid solid economic growth and still-elevated inflation readings. Hawkish signals from Chair Kevin Warsh and the updated dot plot have reinforced trader sentiment that policy will remain restrictive longer than previously anticipated. Attention now shifts to upcoming data releases, including flash PMI figures, and central-bank meetings abroad that could influence relative yield differentials and risk sentiment.
