Recent U.S. access to Venezuelan production through a new equity stake in multiple fields underpins trader focus on Strategic Petroleum Reserve replenishment. The SPR sits near a 44-year low at roughly 290 million barrels after releases tied to the Iran conflict, prompting Energy Secretary Chris Wright to outline potential swaps of heavy Venezuelan crude for lighter domestic grades suitable for storage caverns. Current Venezuelan output near 1.25 million barrels per day already directs over 500,000 barrels daily to U.S. Gulf refineries, yet quality mismatches and infrastructure constraints suggest any meaningful addition will unfold gradually rather than immediately. Upcoming production ramp timelines and Federal Reserve or Treasury data on energy balances remain key variables for implied probabilities.
