The September 20, 2026, Abgeordnetenhaus election will select Berlin’s next governing mayor through coalition negotiations after no party secures a majority. Elif Eralp of Die Linke leads recent polls near 22 percent following incumbent Kai Wegner’s July withdrawal over crisis-management issues, positioning her party for a potential left-leaning alliance with the SPD and Greens. Stefan Evers, the CDU’s replacement candidate and finance senator, trails slightly in surveys around 18 percent while defending the current black-red coalition record. Werner Graf of the Greens, Steffen Krach of the SPD, and Kristin Brinker of the AfD register single-digit support, limiting their direct paths to the Red Town Hall. Traders price the top two contenders closely because coalition arithmetic, turnout in key districts, and late campaign momentum on housing and budget issues could still shift the largest-party outcome before election day.
