The Göttingen mayoral race remains tightly contested ahead of the September 13 first-round vote, with trader consensus reflecting a fragmented four-candidate field after incumbent Petra Broistedt opted not to seek re-election. Florian Dinger (SPD), Onyeka Oshionwu (Greens, backed by Volt), Ehsan Kangarani (CDU, supported by the FDP), and Thomas Goes (Left) have focused campaigns on city finances, housing affordability, climate adaptation, and administrative efficiency in recent interviews. The absence of an incumbent and the possibility of a September 27 runoff if no candidate secures an outright majority keep probabilities sensitive to turnout patterns and late shifts among university-city voters. No single contender has established a decisive edge in the final week.
