Recent National Weather Service forecasts for Chicago on September 5, 2026, point to overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s, reflecting the primary driver behind clustered market-implied odds around 66–73°F. Lake Michigan’s moderating effect, combined with northeast winds shifting to 10–15 mph, limits radiative cooling under partly cloudy skies and elevated humidity near 70–80%. A recent warm spell with daytime highs in the 90s has maintained elevated surface temperatures, reducing the potential for sharper overnight drops. Model consensus shows limited divergence on these factors, though variable lake breeze timing or unexpected cloud cover could shift the minimum by a few degrees within the tightly bunched leading outcomes. Updated NWS briefings remain the key near-term data point.
