Silver (XAG/USD) has rallied sharply into the week of August 24, trading near $68.90 per ounce after posting weekly gains exceeding 6% amid a weaker U.S. dollar and lower Treasury yields following the U.S. Treasury’s announcement to at least double longer-dated bond buybacks starting in September. The move has been reinforced by persistent geopolitical tensions around the Strait of Hormuz that support higher oil prices and inflation expectations, alongside silver’s structural fundamentals: the Silver Institute projects a sixth consecutive annual market deficit of roughly 46 million ounces in 2026, underpinned by steady industrial demand. Traders are watching the 200-day moving average near $72 for the next resistance while monitoring upcoming Fed communications and economic data that could shift real-yield expectations and dollar strength.
