The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) has traded near 98.8 in late August 2026, pressured lower by the Treasury’s expanded long-term bond buyback program, which has heightened volatility and shifted flows toward safe-haven assets amid rising debt concerns. Recent softening in the greenback reflects narrower interest-rate differentials expectations and commodity price pressures, including higher oil. Traders are monitoring the week’s data slate—S&P Case-Shiller home prices, new home sales, consumer confidence, and durable goods orders—for signs of consumer and housing resilience that could influence rate-path expectations. With DXY already down nearly 1% in the prior week and hovering near three-month lows, near-term moves hinge on whether incoming releases confirm economic stabilization or reinforce dovish policy repricing.
