This market may resolve as soon as the relevant data showing the reached level is published. The Federal Reserve has held the federal funds target range steady at 3.50–3.75% through mid-2026, with the effective rate near 3.63%, amid persistent inflation pressures that have pushed core PCE above 3.3% year-over-year. Supply shocks from Middle East energy constraints and tariff effects have kept headline PCE near 3.6–3.7%, prompting the June dot plot to lift the median 2026 rate projection to 3.8% and signal potential hikes, despite a stable labor market with unemployment around 4.3% and solid GDP growth near 2.2%. Markets now price modest tightening odds into year-end, contrasting earlier easing expectations. The September 16 FOMC meeting, with updated projections, and incoming CPI/PCE data will shape whether the policy rate moves before 2027 or remains anchored near current levels.
