Strong August employment data, with payrolls rising well above consensus and the unemployment rate steady near 4.1%, has reinforced expectations that the Federal Reserve will deliver a rate hike at its September 15-16 FOMC meeting. Persistent inflation pressures, with core PCE still running above the 2% target and recent three-month readings near 3%, combined with resilient economic activity, have shifted trader positioning toward tighter policy under the current 3.50%-3.75% fed funds range. Market-implied odds reflect this hawkish tilt, though incoming CPI and PPI releases remain key swing factors ahead of the decision.
