Magdalena Andersson leads the market as the likely next Swedish prime minister because her Social Democrats head the centre-left opposition bloc, which has maintained a polling advantage over Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson’s Tidö coalition ahead of the 13 September 2026 parliamentary election. Recent surveys show the opposition bloc at roughly 50–53% support against 44–47% for the government parties and Sweden Democrats, though the gap has narrowed in the final weeks. Traders appear to price in the structural advantage of Andersson’s party as the largest on the left, combined with the coalition’s challenges forming a stable majority if the Liberals remain below the 4% threshold. Campaign focus on welfare spending, healthcare, crime, and energy has not produced a decisive shift toward the incumbent, leaving Andersson as the consensus choice for forming the next government if current trends hold.
