Mayes advanced unopposed in the July Democratic primary, while Petersen secured the GOP nomination after defeating Rodney Glassman by roughly 13 points in a costly contest. Recent August surveys from Noble Predictive Insights and others show Mayes ahead by 4–8 points among likely voters, driven by her incumbency advantage and positioning on issues like immigration enforcement and state litigation. The race remains competitive given Arizona's narrow 2022 margin for Mayes and undecided voters in current polling, with the November 3 general election outcome hinging on turnout and late-cycle developments.
