Incumbent Scott Gillingham holds a leading position in the Winnipeg mayoral race ahead of the October 28 vote, supported by his record on transit changes, housing starts, and downtown safety initiatives. Kevin Klein’s September 1 entry as a former councillor and provincial minister who placed third in 2022 has introduced the strongest named challenger, though immediate scrutiny over his past votes and associations has followed. A fragmented field of more than a dozen lesser-known candidates, including Don Woodstock and Michael Vogiatzakis, continues to split potential opposition support. Earlier polling indicated notable voter dissatisfaction with the incumbent on issues such as homelessness and property taxes, yet Gillingham’s recent pledges on accelerating housing construction and inspections have reinforced his frontrunner status in trader assessments. Further candidate debates or late endorsements could shift momentum before nomination papers close on September 22.
