Texas's 8th congressional district remains a strongly Republican-leaning seat, reflected in trader consensus favoring the Republican nominee at 93.5% implied probability. The open seat, created by Morgan Luttrell's retirement, features Republican Jessica Steinmann against Democrat Laura Jones in the November 2026 general election. The district delivered 63% support for the Republican presidential candidate in 2024 and maintains consistent GOP advantages in exurban Houston and surrounding counties. Steinmann secured the nomination in the March 2026 primary with backing from party figures, while Jones advanced on the Democratic side. With no major recent developments altering the fundamentals, the race aligns with historical patterns for this district. Scenarios that could narrow the gap include an unexpected national political shift, significant candidate-specific developments, or unusually high Democratic turnout.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
