Frank Scarpitti maintains a leading position in the Markham mayoral race due to his long incumbency since 2006 and established record on fiscal management and community infrastructure. Challenger Martin Ross, who entered after a high-profile backyard hockey rink dispute with the city, has focused his campaign on greater transparency and accountability, drawing attention to concerns over extended leadership tenure. Stephen Edgell rounds out the field as a lesser-known contender following the close of nominations on August 21. With voting scheduled for October 16–26, 2026, trader consensus reflects Scarpitti’s name recognition and institutional advantages in a low-profile municipal contest, while Ross’s bid introduces limited competitive pressure without recent polling or major campaign shifts altering the outlook.
