Idaho's 2nd congressional district maintains a strong Republican lean, reflected in its R+13 Cook Partisan Voting Index and consistent voting patterns that have favored GOP candidates since the last Democratic win in 2008. Incumbent Representative Mike Simpson secured the Republican nomination in the May 2026 primary, defeating two challengers and positioning himself for a general election matchup against Democratic nominee Elinor Gilbreath. This structural advantage, combined with the absence of competitive polling shifts or major district-specific developments through mid-August 2026, underpins trader consensus favoring the Republican Party. A significant national political wave, late scandal involving the incumbent, or unexpected turnout surge in Democratic-leaning pockets of the district could narrow the margin, though such factors remain low-probability given historical base rates for similar seats.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
